The Lady Rebels flag football team got their first area win over the Mountain Brook Spartans. The game was offensively controlled by the Rebels as many on the team saw playing time.
Offensively, sophomore quarterback Julia Rose threw 10/15 with three touchdown passes. Junior Lil Sapp went 3/5 with one touchdown pass and a rushing touchdown to light up the scoreboard even more. Also seeing some time at the quarterback position was sophomore Chloe Leahy who went 2/5 and had a rumbling scramble for 15 yards. Lastly, senior Riley Newsome threw 1/2 and also scrambled for a 20 yard rush.
Senior Christiana Belcher scored two touchdowns and had three receptions. Senior River Riley scored a touchdown and was also an irritating force on defense, as was Belcher. Center junior Layne Turner scored a touchdown as well as an extra point for the Rebels. Sophomore Chloe Leahy also scored an extra point. Junior Emily Spooner added another six to the scoreboard with a beautiful reception. Freshmen Callie Davis and Alexis Rubin both had an impressive evening with a touchdown catch each. Rubin was impressive with five receptions in the game.
Defensively, senior River Riley had two sacks for a total loss of ten yards. Senior Ella Stephens had two interceptions and several knockdowns for the Rebels. Senior Elizabeth Ann Cooper had a sack for a loss of five yards, and sophomore Caroline Nintzel was a defensive irritant with two sacks on the night. Sophomore Callie Davis had a sack for a loss of five yards as well, and senior Holland Warren and sophomore Molly Mac Sharp both had interceptions for the Rebels.
Senior Holland Warren put the Spartans deep in their own territory several times with her strong end over end punts.
Many players saw playing time and it was a total team effort as the Lady Rebels defeated the Spartans 42-6.
The Lady Rebels play at home September 26th as they host Homewood and Gadsden City.
