Vestavia Boys Claim AHSAA 7A Tennis Crown; Girls Runner-up

MOBILE – Vestavia Hills High School's boys finished strong Tuesday to claim its 11^th AHSAA state tennis championship overall and its fifth straight crown since 2022 as the 81^stAHSAA Tennis Championships closed out the Class 7A competition at Mobile Tennis Center.   The Rebels posted 35 points in the boys' competition with Hoover and Montgomery Academy tied for second with 29 points each. St. Paul's Episcopal finished fourth with 20 points.
    Huntsville High School, which finished runner-up in 2025, held a slim 31-27 lead over defending state champion Vestavia Hills heading into Tuesday's final day of competition in Class 7A. The Lady Panthers, coached by Chris Shearburn, relied on some strong play in the finals with three champions crowned in the singles competition to post 45 points and dethroned Vestavia Hills, which had 36 points to finish second.
    Vestavia Hills senior Andrew Pipkin (38-2) downed St. Paul's sophomore Thomas Brutkiewicz (27-4) in the Class 7A boys' No. 1 singles championship match to spark the Rebels, coached by Oliver Aaron. Pipkin also joined with JB Harris to capture the No. 2 doubles title 6-2, 7-5 over Strikar Kaki and Joseph Park of Bob Jones.
    Vestavia's Austin Hood (24-11) also won the No. 2 singles championship beating Auburn's Camden Colvin 6-2, 6-1.
