Rose leads Vestavia Hills to 4 Wins & NFL Flag Tourney Title at Dothan with 905 yards passing and 19 TDs

AHSAA Flag Football Spotlight for Week 3

    MONTGOMERY – Senior quarterback Julia Rose of Vestavia Hills High School was in full bloom last weekend at the NFL Football Flag Tourney held at Dothan.
    This week's AHSAA Flag Football spotlight landed on her leadership skills as she quarterbacked the Lady Rebels (15-1), ranked 24th nationally in the latest MaxPreps ranking, to four straight wins and the overall tournament title with a weekend any quarterback at any level would dream of. She completed 77-of-126 passes for 905 yards and 19 touchdowns to lead her team to the Gold Division title. She did not throw an interception.
    Vestavia Hills (15-1), coached by Debra Broome with Daniel Davis, associate head coach/offensive coordinator and Joy Bragan, defensive coordinator, beat Murphy 35-0 in the tournament opener at Westgate Park on Saturday. The team then beat Northside Methodist Academy 47-0 and continued the domination on  with a 32-0 victory over Albertville and a 20-13 win over powerful Prattville in the finals.
    Rose helped extend the Rebels' current winning streak to 14 games with two more wins on Tuesday – a 42-0 victory over Mountain Brook and 41-0 triumph over Talladega. She was 29-of-47 for 435 yards and 10 touchdowns in those wins to close out the three-day total with 1,340 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 106-of-173 pass attempts completed.
    She upped her season passing totals to 325 completions in 501 attempts for 3,883 yards and 64 touchdowns – with the rest of the season remaining. Her yardage ranks fourth in he nation this week, according to MaxPreps – behind three quarterbacks from California. Emma Coronada of Kimball (CA) leads the nation with 4,763 yards and 54 TDs in 15 games.
    Rose's top tournament game came in the Dothan finals completing 24-of-39 passes versus Prattville in the Dothan tourney finals totaling 282 yards and three TDs. She was 20-of-26 for 224 yards and seven TDs in the 47-0 win over Northside Methodist. In Tuesday's victory over Mountain Brook, she finished 12-of-17 for 251 yards and six touchdowns.
    Junior receiver Alexis Rubin went over 1,000 yards receiving and over 100 catches in the Rebels' winning spree. She totaled 33 catches for 412 yards and 10 touchdowns over the six wins. She had six catches for 96 yards and three TDs in the victory over Murphy, and she had eight receptions for 94 yards and two scores in the Talladega win. Rubin also had seven interceptions on defense in the tourney and upped her state-leading total to 15 on the season.
    Teammate Gabby LeMaster had 17 catches for 273 yards and seven touchdowns in the Dothan tourney. Her top effort came in the finals with six catches for 97 yards and two TDs in the 20-13 win over Prattville. She also had six catches for 92 yards and four scores versus Northside Methodist and now has 66 catches for 809 yards and 13 TDs this season.

Emma Kate Jacobs, Vestavia Hills: Managed eight tackles in the Rebels' 20-13 win over Prattville and one interception. She now has three picks on the season.
